When dealing with stressful schedules, everyone can use a healthy, stress-reducing snack or meal. A perfect choice is soup! If your stress level is at a 10, a warm bowl or cup of soup can calm your body and mind in minutes, bringing your stress down. Soup is a healthy and safe choice for anyone who is multi-tasking at work or home. It is definitely a healthy alternative to wine sipping or cannabis use, during the day, when making major work decisions and especially when caring for children. Soup can calm your mind and give you a refresher!
Soup that is referred to here is NOT loaded with cream, cheese, and excessive salt, but healthy vegetables and broth. While you may not be able to purchase healthy soup from your favorite fast food spot, most convenience stores have ready-made soup, full of veggies. Soup is also easy to make at home. Vegetables can be simply onions, celery and carrots, which are common in chicken noodle soup. Once you make a batch of soup, it only takes a couple of minutes to warm up each day. (To keep soup healthy, avoid microwaving it.)
You can eat soup during the middle of the day or as an appetizer before your meal. It tastes best when warm, not scolding hot. It instantly calms you to give you clarity when thinking and reduces your mind from racing. Soup has a high level of water, so it is a great food to hydrate your body. And a low-sodium vegetable soup can give you all the vegetables needed for the day. Part of eating soup to reduce stress is to eat it slow. For 10-15 minutes, don’t worry about the trillion things on your to-do list. So, think of the time you will save, after you refuel with soup, and are clear-minded. Canned Soup You can make a batch of soup last for several days or you can open a can of soup—either one can help reduce stress. So, if you don’t have time to make your own soup, don’t stress about it—just open a can of soup. Chicken Noodle Soup Chicken noodle soup contains ingredients that are especially calming because the traditional base of onions, celery and carrots with chicken work to boost your immune system. The fact that we eat chicken soup when we are sick, suggest that it has benefits for keeping us well, to avoid getting sick. Vegetable Soup Good nutrition, instead of poor eating, is essential to reduce stress, so soup is an ideal food when you have to handle major tasks during the day or look for a de-stresser at the end of the day. Vegetable soups can also be a good replacement for fatty foods if you want to lose weight. In order to lose weight, it is best to replace high-calorie foods or snacks with low-calorie soups. All soups are not low-calorie. Avoid creamy, cheesy and chunky soups. If you choose wisely, soups can provide the same comfort that your favorite snacks and comfort foods do, but with greater health benefits. A medley of vegetables, herbs and spices can taste like Thanksgiving dinner in a bowl. Cold Soup Soup doesn’t necessarily have to be hot. Some soups taste better when warmed because it helps to mix the ingredients, but others can be eaten cold or room-temperature. Cold soups may quench your thirst in warm weather, giving you all the nutrients of a healthy salad. Soup for a Snack Many soups can be eaten on-the-go, in place of an unhealthy snack.
